Public Safety Content Developer-LE Accreditation

This is a full-time, hourly, Remote role.

The Work 
The Lexipol Content Development Team is responsible for the publication of all policy, policy updates, and policy-related training for subscribers to any of Lexipol’s public safety policy manuals. Additionally, the team contributes to, and in some cases is directly responsible for, the publication of public safety-related content of an occasional nature, or for another team which may have primary responsibility for that content.  

The Public Safety Content Developer researches, reviews, and authors written content across Lexipol’s various public safety product lines, incorporates updates identified by other team members into policy documents, evaluates policies for practicality and functionality within public safety organizations, researches content to align with best practice standards, and recommends changes and updates as necessary. The Public Safety Content Developer may also review and create other written content to include: Today’s Tips scripts, e-learning courses, policy training (Daily Training Bulletins), accreditation guides, articles, blog posts, white papers, and other content as needed.  

The prime objective for the Public Safety Content Developer is to deliver assigned projects with a high level of quality, while adhering to time constraints. This is done through working in these areas of focus: 

Learning 
  • Learning Lexipol content, writing style, and internal working procedures 
  • Learning our methods of self-assessment and open communication, and implementation of these methods of communication with your assigned manager and team members 
  • Regularly practicing the actions of self-reporting and asking for assistance in upgrading your skillset via additional support and training from coworkers to achieve high levels of proficiency 
  • Learning new processes, procedures, and software 
  • Maintaining electronic records, logs, and files 

Collaboration 
  • Participating in team meetings and other collaborative assignments 
  • Conferring with subject matter experts and industry experts 
  • Participating in group meetings to determine content to be developed for publication 
  • Responding to client inquiries within expected timeframes 
  • Collaborating with industry experts and internal teams to develop content for publication using various resources and collaborative tools 

Content 
  • Interpreting accreditation body standards and identifying existing Lexipol policy content which addresses designated standards or identifying where gaps may exist 
  • Developing policy content as needed to account for accreditation standard gaps, and completing metadata tagging of accreditation standards to policy content
  • Evaluating policies, incorporating collaborative input from other teams, and researching content to align with state-specific practices or standards and recommending updates as necessary 
  • Developing and preparing new policy and procedural content, and updating existing policy content for multiple jurisdictions, to include satisfying accreditation standards as applicable 
  • Reviewing published materials and recommending revisions in scope and format 
  • Staying abreast of new trends and innovations in various sectors of public safety, legal, and risk management fields 
  • Managing priorities to complete assignments within designated timeframes 
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to provide high quality, error-free work product for our clients 
  • Conducting research to identify current and future policy needs based on trends, best practices, case law, accreditation standards, and other influences 
  • Critically reviewing and editing content developed by others 
  • Developing training content (DTBs, Today’s Tips scripts, e-learning courses) 

Requirements – To be considered for this role, you will have this experience/background: 
  • Recent Accreditation Manager experience with a US-based Law Enforcement agency, with current working knowledge of state and/or national accreditation standards.
  • Experience with one or more accreditation content management software systems.
  • Experience developing law enforcement policy and procedure (e.g., researching, authoring, reviewing). 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a strong knowledge of English composition and grammar standards. 
  • Understanding of the purpose of policy and possessing the ability to evaluate material for applicability in one or more public safety sectors. 
  • Passion for developing and effectively presenting information and ideas in writing. 
  • Ability to comprehend and present information and ideas as part of a collaborative process in a fast-paced remote-work environment. 
  • Ability to prioritize multiple, repetitive assigned tasks and due dates, while utilizing problem-solving skills to evaluate new information or changing circumstances, and providing creative solutions to problems as they arise.
  • Ability to research case law, policies and procedures, and other publications, and identify and understand the implication for both current and future policy and other related content. 
  • Possess heightened attention to detail, enabling the detection of inconsistencies in format, citations, and context. 
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work with little supervision within a home-office setting. 
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in Criminal Justice Administration, Corrections, Fire Science, Public Policy, Criminology, Public Administration, Psychology, Cyber Security, Public Safety, Emergency Management, Sociology, Law, Pre-Law, Police Science, or a similar relevant focus. 
  • Advanced functional knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and strong general computer skills. 
  • Creative writing and analytical skills. 
  • Time management skills. 
  • A desire to learn. 
  • Experience in quality assurance and quality improvement. 

Preferred Experience: 
  • Experience as a State Accreditation LE assessor or CALEA Assessor
  • Minimum ten years of public safety experience. 
  • Minimum five years participation in the research/development, writing, review, and application of policies and procedures in one or more public safety sectors.

  • Knowledge Management System (KMS): To develop a working knowledge of our proprietary software system. 
  • Wrike: To develop a working knowledge of our internal document/product management system. 
  • Accreditation Content Development: To complete accreditation-related content development and related tasks by the project’s target date.
  • Policy Content Development: To process policy updates and issue them to the respective state by the target date. 
  • To develop training content across the public safety product lines (DTBs, Today’s Tips scripts, e-learning courses, other training content) as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits: 
Lexipol offers a competitive base salary, monthly or annual incentive, and a comprehensive benefits package including 401(k) with company match and a flexible paid time off plan. 

This is a full-time hourly role with a rate of $31 to 35 per hour.
