Policy Training Content Developer

The Work
The Lexipol Policy Content Training Team is responsible for the publication of all policy-related Daily Training Bulletins (DTBs) and other policy-related training for subscribers to any of Lexipol’s public safety and local government policy manuals. Additionally, the team contributes to, and in some cases is directly responsible for, the publication of public safety-related content of an occasional nature, or for another team which may have primary responsibility for that content.
The Public Safety Policy Training Content Developer researches, reviews, and authors written training content across Lexipol’s various public safety and local government product lines, incorporates updates identified by other team members into training documents, evaluates training content for practicality and functionality within public safety and local government organizations, researches content to align with best practice standards, and recommends changes and updates as necessary. The Public Safety Training Content Developer may also review and create other written content as assigned.
The prime objective for the Public Safety Policy Training Content Developer is to deliver assigned projects with a high level of quality, while adhering to time constraints. This role is primarily a writing role, to include drafting, reviewing, revising, and editing training content. This is done through working in these areas of focus:

Lexipol offers a competitive base salary, monthly or annual incentive, and a comprehensive benefits package including 401(k) with company match and a flexible paid time off (PTO) plan.
This is a full-time hourly role with a rate of pay up to $32 per hour, based upon experience, with a performance-based annual bonus.

- Learning Lexipol content, writing style, and internal working procedures
- Learning our methods of self-assessment and open communication, and implementation of these methods of communication with your assigned manager and team members
- Regularly practicing the actions of self-reporting and asking for assistance in upgrading your skillset via additional support and training from coworkers and your manager to achieve high levels of proficiency
- Learning new processes, procedures, and software
- Maintaining timely and accurate electronic records, logs, and files
- Participating in team meetings and other collaborative assignments
- Conferring with subject matter experts and industry experts
- Participating in cross-functional meetings to determine training content to be developed for publication
- Collaborating with industry experts and internal teams to develop content for publication using various resources and collaborative tools
- Meeting with supervisor as scheduled or as necessary
- Developing policy training content as needed to account for accreditation standards and reporting, and completing accreditation tagging of standards to policy training content
- Evaluating policies, incorporating collaborative input from other teams, and researching training content to align with state-specific practices or standards and recommending updates as necessary
- Developing and preparing new policy training and procedural training content, and updating existing policy training content for multiple jurisdictions, to include satisfying accreditation standards as applicable
- Reviewing published materials and recommending revisions in scope and format
- Staying abreast of new law enforcement trends and innovations, to include legal and risk management assessments
- Managing priorities to complete assignments within designated timeframes
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to provide high quality, error-free work product for our clients
- Developing training content (DTBs, and other training content as assigned)
Requirements – To be considered for this role, you will have this experience/background:
- Recent law enforcement, corrections, or community corrections supervisory/managerial experience with a US-based Law Enforcement, Corrections, or Community Corrections agency, with current working knowledge of state and/or national best practices.
- Experience developing law enforcement, corrections, or community corrections policy and procedure (e.g., researching, authoring, reviewing, revising).
- Minimum of five years law enforcement, corrections, or community corrections training experience (e.g., training manager, training coordinator, agency trainer).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a strong knowledge of English composition and grammar standards.
- Understanding the purpose of policy training and possessing the ability to evaluate material for applicability in one or more public safety and local government sectors.
- Passion for developing and effectively presenting information and ideas in writing.
- Ability to comprehend and present information and ideas as part of a collaborative process in a fast-paced remote-work environment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple, repetitive assigned tasks and due dates, while utilizing problem-solving skills to evaluate new information or changing circumstances and providing creative solutions to problems as they arise.
- Ability to research case law, policies and procedures, and other publications, and identify and understand the implications for both current and future policy and other related content.
- Possess heightened attention to detail, enabling the detection of inconsistencies in format, citations, and context.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work with little supervision within a home-office setting.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in Education, Criminal Justice Administration, Corrections, Police Science, Public Policy, Criminology, Public Administration, Psychology, Law, Pre-Law, Journalism or a similar relevant focus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work in and learn specialized software systems such as Teams, SharePoint, and new methods and technologies.
- Creative writing, storytelling, and analytical skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- A strong desire to learn.
- Experience in quality assurance and quality improvement.
Target Outcomes / Target Results:
- To develop a working knowledge of our proprietary software systems.
- To develop a working knowledge of our internal document/product management system.
- To produce policy training content and distribute training content to the respective state by the target date.
- To develop training content across Lexipol’s public safety product lines (e.g., DTBs, Today’s Tips, other training content) as assigned.
