The Work
The Accounting team is responsible for producing Lexipol’s financial statements.  We are responsible for providing timely and accurate financial information in compliance with GAAP and IRS guidelines. We provide ad hoc and scheduled financial reports and filings to various internal and external stakeholders. Our team comprises individuals responsible for R2R (Record to Report) including Indirect Tax, and P2P (Procure to Pay).


The Indirect Tax Analyst has primary responsibility for transaction tax filings including sales and use tax, property taxes, gross receipts taxes, commercial activity tax, and business licenses. In addition, they will handle Census filings and will assist with consolidated Federal and State income tax returns and payments,

The Indirect Tax Analyst will report to the Director of Accounting and will work closely with the VP Corporate Controller and third party tax partner to ensure accurate and timely completion of all tax filings and payments. The individual will interact with various departments/teams including O2C (Order to Cash which includes billing, collections, and cash application) and other internal departments as well as customers/vendors.
This is done through working in these areas of focus:

Sales and Use/Franchise Tax (35%)
  • Prepare, consolidate, and review sales/franchise tax data to be filed and paid either manually or using Vertex.
  • Expand indirect tax filings to new states/jurisdictions where Lexipol meets nexus requirements.
  • Prepare data requests for Voluntary Disclosure Audits
  • Maintain and update all of Lexipol’s sales and use tax registration/de-registrations.
  • Spear-head communication campaigns to customers in various states to obtain exemption certificates.
  • Update customer records and file customers’ tax exemption certificates.
  • Research, track, respond, and resolve taxing authority notices and inquiries timely.
  • Assist with any sales and use tax audits, including gathering information, performing tax research, and assisting in preparing appeals.
  • Research and document sales and use tax issues to verify compliance, sales tax refunds, and/or saving opportunities, and remain up to date on transaction laws and applicable changes.
  • Research and respond to customer and vendor tax related inquiries.
  • Request tax residency certificates.
Federal and State Income Tax (15%)
  • Assist with gathering data for and coordinating filings and payments of consolidated federal, state, and local income tax returns through third party.
Business License Renewals, Personal Property Tax, and other Annual reports (25%)
  • Gather data, calculate, file, and maintain all new and renewal business licenses and assigned annual business.
  • Prepare Business Personal Property tax returns for applicable counties.
  • Gather information and respond to US Census inquiries.
Administrative tasks (15%)
  • Maintain tax tracker for monthly, quarterly, and annual taxes.
  • Manage various city, county, state, and federal tax portal logins.
  • Prepare monthly indirect tax reconciliations and book any adjusting journal entries.
  • Provide all online payment information and supporting documentation to Accounts Payable for recording.
  • Create and maintain organized records of tax documents, forms, and correspondence.
  • Assist with special or ad hoc projects as needed.
  • Onboard indirect tax compliance of acquired entities.
Process Improvements (10%)
  • Support implementation/automation of tax projects and ERP system’s design, maintenance, and implementation related to indirect tax matters to ensure compliance, enhance efficiency, and minimize expense.
Requirements:  To be considered for this role, you will have this experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 3 – 5 years Indirect tax experience.
  • Working knowledge of tax statutory law and regulations and research of tax codes.
  • Experience with Vertex or similar sales tax compliance software.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.).
  • Systems/Technology savvy.
  • Familiarity with general ledger accounting systems.
  • Solid account reconciliation skills including follow-up on open items.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and work ethic.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Experience:
  • NetSuite experience.
  • CCH Sales tax experience.
  • SalesForce experience.
Target Outcomes/ Target Results
  • Submit timely and accurate sales and use tax and franchise tax filings and payments.
  • Update business licenses renewals timely prior to expiration.
  • Work with 3rd party to de-register and register in various states as needed for tax compliance purposes.
  • Update customer records with exemption certificates timely to avoid invoices incorrectly including sales tax charges.
  • Optimize NetSuite to Vertex interface to eliminate manual changes on Vertex prepared returns.
  • Expand Vertex to file additional states where Lexipol has met nexus, ensuring the tax matrix for customer type and product is setup accurately and tested prior to go-live for each state.
  • Spearhead campaigns to gather customer sales tax exemption certificates in coordination with Revenue Operations and the CSM team.
  • Ensure Accounts Payable is informed timely of any on-line payments made for recording in Concur & NetSuite
  • Compile, file and remit payment for Business Personal Property tax returns.
  • Coordinate and complete any US Census requests, and submit timely.
  • Respond to any customer or vendor tax inquiries timely and accurately.
  • Research, track, respond, and resolve taxing authority notices and inquiries timely.
  • Assist third party with gathering data for and coordinating filings and payments of consolidated federal, state, and local income tax returns.
  • Prepare monthly indirect tax reconciliations and book any adjusting journal entries.
  • Maintain tax tracker for monthly, quarterly, and annual taxes.
  • Provide regular formal or informal training to others on indirect tax matters.
  • Continuously improve processes: document and measure current accounting processes; optimize processes to reduce hours, increase efficiency, and eliminate non value-add work; document and measure optimized processes.
  • Uncover opportunities to automate and lead implementation.

Base salary for this role is $63-68k, plus bonus.
